There are a variety of venues to enjoy cabaret in Alicante along with theatre, live music and cultural performances, such as the Teatro Principal that dates back to 1846, equally as old Arniches Theatre and a number of music bars and clubs. The most popular venue for cabaret acts is the famous Benidorm Palace that, although a 40 minute drive from Alicante, is well worth a visit when on holiday and also features a number of world famous music artists, bands, comedy stand up acts and top DJ's.
A fantastic city venue that offers tranquil and soothing performances during the earlier evenings, and more raucous and bawdy acts later in the night is the emblematic Clan Cabaret located on Calle del Capitán Segarra in Alicante city centre. Since its opening in 1991 the club has welcomed many fantastic cabaret acts through its doors and is also a multidisciplinary space that can set the stage for a number of other performances such as monologues, poetry recital, exhibitions, film projections, small format theatre, concerts and famed DJ sessions.
The vast majority of the performances are by Spanish musicians dancers and actors, although for many visitors wishing to enjoy cabaret in Alicante, it's not so much about understanding the vocal language but rather appreciating the performance in its entirety, singing along, having a dance and generally just enjoying the welcoming atmosphere of Clan Cabaret. Those who enjoy a bit more of a raunchy performance should take in one of the later shows, and performances such as the International Festival of Puppets certainly has no language barrier. A highlight of Clan Cabaret for many is the truly mythical and surreal DJ sessions that feature some top international performances of rock, blues, soul and jazz that often go on until dawn.
