British holidaymakers will be pleased to know there are a good number of Indian restaurants in Alicante. Yes, the British certainly do like a good old ‘Ruby Murray' and outside of India, Britain arguably has the best curry houses in the world. Visitors staying in the central district where the majority of hotels are located, are well catered for as this is also the area where you will find many of the Indian restaurants in Alicante.
One of the great things about Indian cuisine is the diversity of dishes that come from every region of the country and include flavours to suit all palates. These range from very mild butter chicken to flaming hot vindaloo in that tell tale dark brown sauce, or even phaal that will not be found in all the Indian restaurants in Alicante, but for the crazy few that find vindaloo not spicy enough, I'm sure with a bit of exploring you will come across a few serving phaal. India is by and large a poor country and, unlike Britain where the majority of curry dishes are meat based, the staple diet in India consists mainly of vegetables, accompanied by naan, roti and a range of sambals, meaning vegetarians and vegans are also well catered for in Indian eateries.
Restaurante Namaste India – Located on Calle Dr. Sanchez San Julian 6 which is outside the city centre but well worth the drive, Namaste boasts lovely decor, comfortable seating and they consistently turn out great food which keeps many holidaymakers coming back each year. A feature of the restaurant is their bhunas, and they get the sauce, which should be quite dry, perfect every time whether you choose chicken, lamb or an indulgent king prawn. They also have a good range of starters, sides, sambals and ice cold Indian beer.
Tandoori House – Centrally located on Calle San Fernando 14, the decor here is simple and the menu not as large as most but what they do serve, they serve well and at reasonable prices. Families with young children who haven't developed a taste for curry yet will be pleased to know there is a Burger King situated close to Tandoori House.
New Delhi Indian Restaurant – Boasting a great position close to the harbour on Calle San Fernando 39, the wonderful smell of herbs and spices has visitors eager to order the minute they walk through the door. New Delhi is a family run restaurant and they pride themselves on their attentive customer service and authentic cuisine, accompanied by cheerful Bollywood music and movies.
Taj Mahal – Located just outside the city centre on Av. Benito Perez Galdos 41, visitors can expect good value here, and when you see Indians dining in the restaurant it's always a good sign. The sauces are rich and full of the flavours of fresh herbs and spices, papadoms crisp and naans fluffy. Their 3 course set menu during week days is exceptional value at under 9€.
